What exactly is Chiropractic?

Interferences in the nervous system can cause your body to not function fully which can lead to pain, discomfort or dysfunction at that point or at any point along the nerve or of the organ/system served by that nerve.

Chiropractic has the premise that adjustments at these points of interference stimulate the body's own self-healing ability and facilitate a return to optimum health and function.

The McTimoney method

Chiropractors using the McTimoney method of chiropractic use their well-tuned sense of touch to locate areas where these interferences exist. They use light-force adjustments, which feel comfortable to the recipient, to align and rebalance the body, typically working on the spine, pelvis and skull.

Most people initially visit a chiropractor when they are experiencing pain. They soon find that they benefit from chiropractic even after the initial painful condition has resolved. This may be expressed as a general sense of wellbeing, or improved function in some aspect of their body, for example, they might find they are sleeping better.

Chiropractic has an important role in helping you optimise your health. Chiropractors adopt a holistic approach offering advice on lifestyle as well as how you use your body - aiming to reduce the recurrence of problems. Wherever possible, we offer self-help advice.

Chiropractic is suitable for people of all ages from newborns to the elderly and throughout pregnancy. Animals also benefit from chiropractic.

How we can help

What to expect

During the initial consultation, we ask about your symptoms, medical background and lifestyle to enable us to make an accurate assessment prior to carrying out any chiropractic adjustments. We do not routinely use X-rays.

Regular chiropractic

Your chiropractor will recommend that you continue with chiropractic care even after the initial condition has resolved. This is typically at 3-4 monthly intervals. We do this to help your body maintain optimum function reducing the chance of problems recurring.

"I have been going to Gill for treatments since 1999. I had a problem with my neck with very limited movement. I had physio before Gill but this did not seem to help. The first treatment I had with Gill gave me some movement. Since then I have trusted her expertise and her treatments really do work. The clinic is really professional, friendly and welcoming. I have never had a problem with getting an appointment. I have also had treatments with Gills colleagues which have been just as effective. I cannot recommend the McTimoney way enough!! Thanks Gill and the team."
